Darktable vs acdsee9/23/2023 ![]() ![]() It can do other image manipulation functions as well, and is sometimes all I need. Easily the best raw converter for my Pentax files IMO. Other than PS, In order of preference I use -Ĭapture one 9. I really don't think PS can be beaten for its bredth and depth of abilities to manipulate images, but it takes a lot of learning. I have LR only because it come bundled with my Adobe PS subscription. I'm as much of a software junkie as I am a gear junkie And, as noted elsewhere here, Topaz is 50% off too. I got an email offering the new version for $80US but I'm not sure if that's an upgrade price. ON1 Photo 10 (formerly Perfect Effects) is also on sale, I think. But that just for editing, more or less it isn't a DAM/PIE program, although it has a serviceable browser built in. A nice feature is that it can work either through importing into a catalog like Lr, but also like a browser, which makes it quite fast.ĭxO's products are very good, and nobody is as good for lens corrections IMHO, and it's on sale for 50% off last time I looked. It's quite good, depending on how you like the interface. You may have an aversion, but Lr/Ps is the best software out there overall.ĪfterShot Pro has been on sale for as low as $30-40 for the Mac version, and so probably deals are to be had on the PC version. ![]() That's actually quite cheap, since you get Photoshop with Lr thrown in. The only deal you're likely to get from Adobe is the CC plan, on sale now for 25% off for a year through B&H ($90US). Photos can make use of external editors, like Macphun's applications, but the core organizational structure has not (cannot?) be extended. MichaelIt's more accurate to say that Photos filled the gap when iPhoto was deprecated Photos has nowhere near the features of Aperture, nor does it even attempt to be a similar product. To fill the gap in their lineup, they introduced Apple Photos (note: *not* iPhotos), which I assume that over time will be extensible. In the Develop mode, you can make all your RAW adjustments and then save all of them as a global preset. One thing I really like about ACDSee, is that every single tool in it has the ability to save whatever you just did as a preset. Te Develop tab is mainly for processing RAW images, te Edit tab has all the usual jpeg editing options like crop, resize, levels, etc. Selct any image and then select either the View, Edit, or Develop tab to work on the photo. Te main workspace will now show thumbnails of any images in that folder. There is a Explorer style folder tree on the left side and you just find whichever folder contains images you want to edit and open that folder. When you open ACDSee Pro, it opens in the Manage tab. I has a simple file system like Windows Explorer. ![]() It doesn't go through your drives looking for photos to import ever. Haven't really felt the need to upgrade yet. Just thought I'd see if other Pentaxians have used it and whivh versions.I'm still using ACDSee Pro 6. Other folks seemed to love it and at 69.95 right now through tomorrow for two licenses, it seems like a good value. What version of ACDSee Pro are you using? I thought I read some rage online about how this software automatically went through your drives looking for photos to import every time it started. ![]()
